To Lose One’s Voice

Posted on: January 12, 2009

“My own writing voice is good enough.”

I think this third one is one of my more favorite ones because of it’s simplicity and truth.

Indeed, one of the most important things that a writer can have is a unique and individual voice. Since so many stories are, in essence, the same stories and ideas retold, your voice could be the one thing that sets you apart. How would it set you apart? By making you stand out. Your voice is the most important tool you have. Personally, I haven’t really struggled with my voice all that much. However, I know that some people struggle a lot. When you’re a beginner, you think that you have to imitate someone. However, nothing will ring more true then your own unique voice and perspective. So put away the imitations and dig deep to find your true colors, because they will match with the ideas you have. If it’s your voice, it won’t seem forced and you won’t have to wonder.
